Train to Teach
Train to teach with us.
From September 2019 Styal Primary School will be running a Primary SCITT (School Centred Initial Teacher Training) programme as part of the Outstanding Altius Alliance which is part of the Laurus Trust. We will be working with a number of other good and outstanding schools from Cheshire and South Manchester to provide an exceptional training course which meets the needs of each individual trainee.
We have been involved with Initial Teacher Training for many years, offering placements for teachers studying towards their BA in Education and their Post Graduate Certificates in Education. For the last few years, we have been involved in the School Direct route into teaching and have been accredited with ‘Advanced Alliance Partner’ status from Manchester Metropolitan University.
Testimonials from previous trainees with us
“Being in a class right from the start gave me a genuine insight about what skills I needed to become a successful teacher. I quickly built a good professional relationship with my class mentor who treated me as member of staff. Being in the classroom over the whole year rather than in placements was a brilliant way to see how children progress over the academic year. I was learning from professional and specialist teachers weekly and was able to bring this back to the classroom. I also saw the opportunities to progress professionally within a school which I had not considered before.”

“The School Direct Programme was perfect for me as I was able to jump right in and be in a class from the start. Seeing my class mentor and other teachers around the school teach was so helpful when I started to do it myself. I found the school based training days invaluable as I could bring back what I had learnt and put it straight into practice. I received support from my school, the alliance and other associate teachers throughout.”

What is a SCITT?
SCITT stands for School Centred Initial Teacher Training and has the huge advantage of being able to provide practical, hands-on teacher training, delivered by experienced, practising teachers based in their own school or a school in their network or alliance.
Associate Teachers (ATs) can expect to gain placements and training in schools with vast experience of initial teacher training, including schools which excel at training and developing their own staff. The course includes a number of school based training days led by Specialist Leaders of Educations (SLEs) on a range of essential and current themes and based in a range of host schools.
We offer a number of post-graduate teacher training places in collaboration with our partner primaries, all of whom are good or outstanding schools, to ensure that our trainees learn from and with the best.
We are looking for applicants with the potential to become outstanding practitioners.
We are committed to supporting our trainees in finding teaching posts upon the completion of their training and have successfully done so for every trainee we have worked with over the last 5 years as Lead School for the School Direct route.
