Following the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent closure of schools, the government issued an amount of catch-up funding to support with closing gaps in learning. The amount of funding allocated is based on pupil numbers and is paid over two financial years.
At Styal Primary School, we have considered gaps in learning and the government recommended 'COVID-19 Support Guide for Schools' published by the Education Endowment Fund (EEF) to identify the best strategies that will enable us to achieve the best positive outcomes.
There are two broad aims for catch-up at Styal Primary School.
- Mental health of pupils are well met and supported by the school
- Attainment outcomes to be at least in line of those prior to lockdown
We have a particular focus on early Reading and phonics. This is always a focus at Styal Primary School and will continue to be so to develop children's reading ability. By prioritising Reading and phonics this will consequently have a positive impact on all children's wider curriculum.
