Charity Work - Giving Back
At Styal Primary School giving to others is a key value that we hold very dear. This could be giving our time, items or money to people in need.
As part of our Values Curriculum, we encourage children to follwo the NHS' Five Steps to Wellbeing/ Giving to others is a good way to help our own wellbeing and happiness. It s good to help others.
Despite the pandemic, we have raised a fantastic maount of money for the Macmillan Cancer Charity ('Bringing the Coffee Morning Home to You!'), Children in Need and collected money for the East Cheshire Hospice with our Reindeer Rush racing.
We aso collected money for the British Legion by selling poppies. We presented our collection to a local representative. Our children were filled with pride. This was part of a huge art event at school where we created 3d sculptures. This culminated in large a large 3d poppy sculpture that we displayed on the cobbles of the village - socially distanced, of course! Two members of our School Council displayed a poppy wreath on behalf of the school at the local senotaph - a very proud moment.
Giving our time during lockdown was very important to us. A lot of our local residents were lonely, solated and missing their families. Year 3 / 4 took time to sing Christmas Carols at various points around the village to bring Christmas cheer to all!
Year 5 / 6 helped the National Trust to plant trees in the local wood. This would help with erosion. The children were impeccably behaved and felt huge pride in their work.
A pandemic didn't stop our families donating an amazing amount of food to our local food bank. Harvest time filled us with pride once again!
